Are there any alternative treatments for an obstetric fistula?

There are few alternative treatments for an obstetric fistula (the best fix is surgery), but there are ways that you can make yourself more comfortable if you have one. Wear cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothing to prevent further irritation to your skin and gently wash your genital area with warm water. Use a fragrance-free soap to diminish odor because washing with regular soaps can dry your already-sensitive skin. You may also want to place a cold compress on your labia area. Applying cornstarch, non-medicated talcum power and moisturizing creams to help keep fecal matter away from your irritated skin may also help your comfort.
