Some research shows that creatine supplementation can improve certain types of athletic performance. Creatine is best at boosting performance in activities that require repeated bouts of high-intensity movement, such as sprinting or jumping. It is less effective for endurance activities like running or swimming. In addition, creatine may increase the amount of weight that young men can lift. A review study determined that, on average, athletes who used creatine while weight training had a 14% higher increase in weightlifting performance compared to those who take a placebo. However, women and men over 60 do not seem to benefit from creatine.
