What are the wound-healing properties of honey?

Honey is one of the earliest treatments used in wound care. It is naturally high in sugar, acid, produces hydrogen peroxide, and is an antioxidant. Using honey in a wound will lessening the wound’s irritation, swelling, and help the wound remove the dead or damaged tissue to improve the wound’s healthy tissue. Honey is helpful for controlling the wound’s odor, and provides a moist wound environment needed for correct wound healing. Honey also provides the wound with an environment that is not fit to live in by germs, and has the ability to also kill germs. Combining all of these properties in the form of honey will aid in wound healing.
