Bifidobacterium infantis, or B. infantis, is a bacterium that colonizes (lives in) the colon of normal healthy humans. When taken by mouth, the bacteria attach to the lining of the intestines where they prevent pathogenic (disease causing) bacteria from attaching and causing illness. Because of these health benefits, B. infantis is considered to be a probiotic, the opposite of antibiotic. Sources of B. infantis include certain dairy products and a supplement called Bifantis.
