How common is colic?

Colic is very common. It usually occurs between 3 weeks and 3 months of age. Some infants have a terrible time with colic, while others just have mild symptoms. But almost all infants go through a period of uncontrollable crying and apparent discomfort of no known cause. The thought is that colic is due to intestinal gas, but in reality we just don't know the cause.
