Who should not receive Gadavist?

The following may not be good candidates for injection with Gadavist, a contrast agent that helps enhance images of the brain and spinal column during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI):  
  • a person who has severe kidney disease or who has had an acute kidney injury;
  • a person who has previously had an allergic reaction to a contrast medium;
  • a person who has allergies or bronchial asthma;
  • children younger than 2;
  • women who are pregnant or breast-feeding.
