Indigo carmine is a diagnostic dye used in procedures to measure kidney and bladder function. It is blue in color and remains blue as it travels through the kidneys and bladder. Eventually, it's eliminated in urine which it stains a green color. Indigo carmine is administered through an IV. It's not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
