Acthrel is a manufactured version of a hormone found in your body that produces cortisol. The active ingredient, corticorelin ovine triflutate is classified as a diagnostic aid and is used to find the underlying cause of high cortisol levels. Acthrel is administered as an injection and is used as part of a test for individuals with Cushing's syndrome. This disorder is one in which the adrenal gland (part of the endocrine system) produces high levels of cortisol.
