Can DaTscan interact with other medications or foods?

DaTscan may interact with drugs that bind to dopamine transporters in the brain. That may reduce the quality of brain scan images that are taken after a person receives DaTscan. Drugs that can interact with DaTscan include amoxapine, amphetamine, benztropine, bupropion, buspirone, cocaine, mazindol, methamphetamine, methylphenidate, norephedrine, phentermine, selegiline and sertraline.

Some antidepressants that act as selective serotonin inhibitors, including paroxetine and citalopram, may either reduce or enhance the clarity of brain scan images taken using DaTscan. Talk with your doctor about any drugs or supplements you take before receiving DaTscan.
