Omnipaque contains organic iodine compounds, which block x-rays as they pass through the body. This allows the structures of the body containing iodine to be in contrast to the structures that do not contain iodine. Omnipaque can also be instilled into the bladder, kidneys, ureters, uterus, and fallopian tubes, allowing these organs to be contrasted in the image for better visualization.
