Do people with latent autoimmune diabetes (LADA) need to go on to insulin?

Most people with latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) do go on to require insulin. The key difference between LADA and type 1 diabetes is not the age of disease onset, but rather the progression of the disease. People with type 1 diabetes tend to be completely insulin dependent within a few months after diagnosis, while people with LADA can sometimes survive for years without needing to take insulin.
