What is lindane?

Lindane belongs to a group of medications classified as pediculicides or scabicides. It is used to treat scabies and lice by killing the invasive lice and mites, killing the eggs of the mites and lice (nits) as well. Since lindane kills parasites on the skin, it comes in prescription shampoo and lotion forms. It should only be applied once to the area that is infected, and all materials in contact with the treated area need to be thoroughly washed.
