Must my child's hair be dry when I apply malathion to kill head lice?

When you're treating your child’s head lice with malathion (Ovide) lotion, his hair should be dry. Apply enough lotion to get your child's hair and scalp completely wet, and be sure to include the areas behind his ears and at the back of his head and neck.

Leave the malathion on your child’s hair for eight to 12 hours while it dries (do not use a hair dryer), and then shampoo and rinse. You can use a fine-toothed comb to remove dead lice and their eggs.
