At this time, there is not a generic version of Picato (ingenol mebutate). The medicine, which is spread on the skin to treat a precancerous condition called actinic keratosis, was approved as a new type of drug by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in January 2012. This classification by the FDA means that generic drug manufacturers will not be able to sell their own version of Picato for years.
