Neomycin and bacitracin are often prescribed in combination with another drug, polymyxin B, to treat bacterial skin infections. This medication works by weakening the walls of the infection-causing bacteria and limiting the bacteria's ability to grow. It is generally applied several times a day for one week to 10 days. (These ingredients will not treat non-bacterial skin infections.)
