AmLactin in its over-the-counter strength has a few serious side effects. However, an allergic reaction is possible. If you experience facial swelling, hives, itchy rash, or difficulty breathing, you should seek emergency care. Also discontinue use and see a doctor if you have serious burning, stinging, peeling, or redness at the site of application. More mild side effects may include a little peeling, dryness, redness, and irritation, or even some bruising, darkening, or discoloration of the skin. See your doctor if these bother you.
