This is a newly approved filler made of a type of sugar called poly-L-Lactic acid. It is used for deeper lines, especially on the cheeks and around the mouth. It should not be used in the lips since it cannot be injected deep enough at this site and will therefore leave the lips looking lumpy. Small amounts are injected over several sessions. Anesthetic is used as needed, either topical or a nerve block. The results are expected to last one year or longer.
