What is a zygomatic dental implant?

Dr. Anthony Sclar
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Many patients have been told that they are not candidates for dental implants due to severe bone loss in the upper jaw. These patients can benefit from an innovation called “zygomatic implant therapy.” Zygomatic implants are longer than ordinary dental implants and are anchored in the very strong bulk of bone that forms the cheekbone. With minimal surgical trauma and maximum oral function, it is possible to do the surgery in one simple stage instead of doing complex bone grafting procedures in multiple stages. In some cases, two Zygomatic implants combined with two smaller implants placed in the front of the upper jaw are sufficient to support an immediate function fixed hybrid restoration that provides a permanent functional and unsurpassed esthetics resulting in a dramatic quality of life improvement for our patients.
