Why do my dementia symptoms seem worse later in the day?

Feeling more confused and disoriented toward the end of the day isn't uncommon for people who suffer from dementia. In fact, there's a term for it. It's called sundowning. Why sundowning occurs isn't clear, but it may have something to do with fatigue and low levels of light. Sticking to a regular routine, along with keeping your surroundings familiar, may help, as can eating dinner earlier and using a night light.
