What signs does a vital sign monitor read?

What vital signs are read on a monitor vary from monitor to monitor and how the nurses have the machine programmed. Generally the monitor reads:

  • Blood pressure
  • Heart Rate, and Rhythm
  • Respiratory Rate
  • Oxygen Saturation

Additionally they can be programmed to monitor (with addition supplies):

  • Temperature
  • Central Venous Pressure
  • Intracranial Pressure
  • End-Title Carbon Dioxide Monitoring
  • Pulmonary Wedge Pressure
  • Pressure in the Right Atrium
