What are some risks associated with cosmetic foot surgery?

Both the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and the American Podiatric Medical Association have strongly advised against undergoing cosmetic foot surgery. Any surgery, no matter how minor, is associated with risks that can range from infection to impairment. The two main goals and benefits of foot surgery are to relieve pain and improve function. Cosmetic foot surgery does neither and is therefore considered medically unwarranted, given the potentially serious risks involved.
