What is the safest cookware?

Karen Mason

PFOA and PTFE Free Cookware is the safest. PFOA has been detected in more than 98% of the general US population. Exposure has been associated with increased with cholesterol uric acid levels, and recently higher serum levels of PFOA were found to be associated with increased risk of chronic kidney disease in the general United States population, consistent with earlier animal studies. Look for "green" cookware. Yes, it is bit more expensive but you also do not get these chemicals while cooking.

The absolute safest cookware is the kind that is not damaged from burns, rust, cracks where food and therefore bacteria can grow and is free from old food stuck on it. When in doubt, pitch it! Stainless steel is a nice replacement.
