Actually, cooked broccoli is quite nutritious, as long as you don’t overcook it. Broccoli contains sulforaphane, an anti-cancer substance. This substance requires the enzyme myrosine to remain intact in order to provide its protective nature to you. Over-cooking broccoli can destroy the myrosine, so make sure you only steam broccoli for up to about 4 minutes, to avoid destroying the important and nutritious compounds.

According to certain experts, you can add additional sulforaphane to your broccoli dish by including radishes, arugula, cabbage and mustard greens, which all contain high levels of this important and healthy substance.
