Elinest is a birth control pill that combines the female hormones ethinyl estradiol and norgestrel. Elinest comes in a blister card that contains 28 tablets. There are 21 active pills, which contain hormones; these are pale pink in color. The other tablets are white and contain no active ingredients.

Elinest keeps you from getting pregnant primarily by blocking ovulation (the release of an egg) but also by making it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg and for a fertilized egg to implant.

With perfect use, birth control pills like Elinest are 99% effective; with typical use, about 5% of pill users have an unintended pregnancy each year. Birth control pills like Elinest do not protect against human immunodeficiency (HIV) or other sexually transmitted diseases.
