What are common congenital heart defects?

There are more than 1,000 congenital heart defects (CHDs), but the most common are ventricular septal defects and bicuspid aortic valve defects. Defects to the bicuspid aortic valve are the most common because they go undetected for a long time, and do not take effect until middle age adulthood.
