Warts are not always rough to touch. While some warts feel rough like a stalk of cauliflower, flat warts are smooth and flat on the skin. Flat warts are usually seen on the face in children, and there may be clusters of up to 100 warts at any time. Smooth, flat warts can be found where people shave the skin, such as on the legs in women and on the face in men. Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and are not usually serious.
