How does the MitraClip work to treat mitral valve disease?

The MitraClip treats mitral valve disease by reducing or stopping blood leakage through the mitral valve. The MitraClip is a titanium clip with fabric around it.

The mitral valve has two leaflets, like two panel doors. The MitraClip is clipped to the area that is leaking, keeping the leaflets together.
