How is chronic pain diagnosed?

To diagnose chronic pain, a doctor will ask the person to describe the pain, where it is, what makes it better or worse, and what words best describe what it feels like. Sometimes tests will be needed to work out what’s causing the pain, like x-rays, scans, or blood tests. The tests don’t always show what’s causing the pain, but people can still get treatment to help.
