What are healthy cholesterol levels?

Lower your bad (low-density lipoprotein or LDL) cholesterol. Try to keep your total cholesterol level below -200 mg/dl (milligrams of cholesterol per deciliter of blood), and aim to have your LDL (remember "lousy") cholesterol level at 100 mg/dl or below.

Raise your good (high-density lipoprotein or HDL) cholesterol. Try to keep your HDL (remember "healthy") cholesterol at 60 mg/dl or above, but in no case let it go below 45 mg/dl. A little alcohol, more exercise, healthy fats, or even medication may be necessary, but the RealAge (physiologic age) benefit is substantial.
