How can I get my cholesterol level checked?

It is very easy to get your cholesterol checked. Always first ask your doctor for assistance and a prescription. Check with your local hospital, pharmacy, community center, township building or county medical society for info on sponsored "screenings". When you have your results, consult with a physician to review the results and any suggested treatment options. There are more sophisticated methods to analyze not just the standard "Lipid Panel" but also the sub‐particles as well as other novel inflammatory markers that have been in and out of vogue with respect to their ability to help predict risk. Some of these include Homocysteine, Cardiac CRP and Lpa.
The "Target" or goal numbers continue to change / decrease with respect to "Safety / Protection" as more information is learned and research completed, but your doctor can help you understand your numbers.
Humans are one of the few mammalian species who have cholesterol numbers in the triple, let alone the double digits, and as research continues to demonstrate, when it comes to LDL, lower is better and when it comes to HDL, more is better.
High density lipoprotein (HDL), also known as "good cholesterol" is used to transport cholesterol from body tissues to the liver. Low density lipoprotein (LDL), often referred to as "bad cholesterol" is used to transport cholesterol from the liver to the cells of the body.
