How long will the effect of chemical peels remain?

Patricia Farris, MD
Dermatology

I really depends on what type of chemical peel you have. Deep or medium depth peels can last several years but more superficial peels like glycolic or salicylic acid peels will need to be repeated on occasion. These superficial peels are called "lunchtime peels" and are favorites because they have no downtime. I tell patients you can use these superficial peels to freshen your skin before an event or on an as needed basis.  You have to be vigilent about sun protection after any peel. Your dermatologist will recommend a broad spectrum sunscreen to use after the procedure.

After completing the series of peels recommended by your dermatologist, it's your new skin. If you protect it and maintain its health with sunscreen and moisturizer, the results can last for years.
