What is atomoxetine?

Atomoxetine is an oral medication used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It improves attention and reduces restlessness in children, adolescents and adults with ADHD. Atomoxetine belongs to a group of drugs called selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). These drugs increase the levels of norepinephrine in the brain. It is sold in the United States under the brand name Strattera, and there are no generic versions currently available. Unlike many other ADHD medications, atomoxetine is not a stimulant, so it is unlikely to be abused.
