Are some cardio machines better than others for heart rate training?

Cardio equipment can be very helpful in your cardiovascular training. The most important thing to remember is that cross training on different pieces of equipment is the most beneficial. You don’t want to get stuck doing the same mode every workout because you may cause undue stress on your body by doing the same repeated movements over a long period of time. Also, your body will become accustomed to the same mode and you could hit a fitness plateau earlier than if you were to use different equipment. Changing things up from running on a treadmill to cycling will help strengthen the legs in two different movement patterns while at the same time reducing the pounding on the joints caused by running every day. Adding a third type of equipment such as a rower or elliptical with an upper body movement would be preferred.  This additional upper body work will help in strengthening the upper body and will help improve your overall fitness. The more muscle groups that you can use, the better results you will have.
