What is advanced cancer?

Advanced cancer is cancer that has spread beyond its origin to other places in the body. It usually cannot be cured or controlled with treatment. However, treatment can sometimes shrink the cancer, relieve symptoms and help the patient live longer. Some patients can continue to live many years with advanced cancer.
