How do I care for someone with burn pain?

Dr. Jeanne Morrison, PhD
Family Practitioner

Minor burn pain may be able to be treated immediately with cool water and an over-the-counter pain reliever. In more serious cases, the burn pain may be severe and last for a significant amount of time. In such cases, do as much as you can to help the person be pain-free. If scarring has occurred around the joints as a result of a burn, there may be additional burn-related pain. Help them keep their joints pain free by assisting with any physical or occupational therapy that might be necessary to keep the joints mobile.
