Do burns affect children differently than adults?

Burns can be more serious on both children and older adults. These age groups are more vulnerable to the burns and their complications. Young children are also more susceptible to burns because they may not understand the consequences-this is the main reason that experts recommend turning the handles of pots to the back of the stove, so children may not grasp them and pour hot substances on themselves. In addition, it's possible for a healthy adult to survive burns on up to 90 percent of their body, while an older person is more likely to die if burns cover more than 60 percent of their body.
