Burn pain is very common. Over 2 million Americans are treated every year for burns. That number doesn't take into account the millions of minor burns that do not require a doctor's care, but can still cause pain.
Burn pain is normally seen in the majority of second and third degree burns. These are thermal injuries through the dermis and into the deeper subcutaneous tissue. Treatment should include narcotics, anxiolytics, and cold soaking and dressing changes with antibiotic solutions or ointments.
