What are symptoms of a stress fracture?

A stress fracture usually occurs when enough continuous stress is placed on a bone -- usually through repetitive activity such as running or sports training -- to cause an incomplete fracture. Symptoms include swelling in the area, pain, tenderness in the spot, and swelling and pain that increase with activity and decrease with rest.
