Is my teenage daughter too young for breast reduction surgery?

Stuart A. Linder, MD
Plastic Surgery
Breast reduction surgery may be performed by teenage women under special circumstances. First, you should consult with a Board Certified Plastic surgeon to determine her candidacy. I have operated on patients as young as 16 with severe gigantomastia breast that were cleared by the Pediatrician. Most often, we prefer to wait until 18 years of age to determine final breast growth. However, patients with massive breast hypertrophy, presenting with emotional torment, physical ailments including: back pain, neck strain, rashes under the breasts, inability to find an appropriate bra, failure of conservative measures (non-steroidal inflammatory agents, physical therapy, etc.), may be excellent candidates for breast reduction surgery in there teen years.
