What is a breast lift?

Stuart A. Linder, MD
Plastic Surgery
A breast lift (mastopexy) is the surgical raising and reshaping of sagging breasts (for a time). This procedure can also reduce the size of the areola -- the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If a woman's breasts are small or have lost volume, e.g., after pregnancy, breast implants inserted in conjunction with mastopexy can increase both the size and firmness of the breasts.
