Along with breast cancer surgery, which addresses the removal of the primary tumor and is done to control the local disease, breast cancer drug treatment is equally important in helping women to live a cancer-free life. Women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer should consider endocrine treatment. Women with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer should consider HER2-targeted treatment. Women with multiple lymph node involvement, locally advanced breast cancer, hormone receptor-negative breast cancer or HER2-positive disease should consider chemotherapy as an adjuvant (enhances the effectiveness of medical treatment).
