Why should breast cancer be detected early?

Ajay K. Sahajpal, MD
Transplant Surgery

Early detection of breast cancer offers more treatment options and a stronger chance of disease survival.  It is best to report any changes in your breasts to your primary care doctor.

Stuart A. Linder, MD

Early detection of breast cancer increases survival rates significantly. Prescreening with mammograms and ultrasounds may diagnose a lesion requiring further biopsy. A positive biopsy for cancer may require lumpectomy, mastectomy, lymph node dissection, sentinel nodal biopsy, chemotherapy, and possible radiation therapy. Early detection may prevent the spread or metastasis of tumor throughout the breast, lymph nodes or other distinct structures.
