The passageways for the nerves and blood vessels in the area between the neck and the chest, or the thoracic outlet, are already crowded. Therefore, if you are overweight or obese, this can cause even more pressure on the thoracic outlet and contribute to thoracic outlet syndrome, in which these nerves and blood vessels become compressed. If you are predisposed to thoracic outlet syndrome, you can help prevent this disorder by maintaining a healthy weight.
