What is the most common knee injury?

The most common knee injury is a torn meniscus—that's injury to tissue that adds stability to the knee joint. Shaped like a suction cup, the meniscus keeps the round bottom of the thigh bone sitting nicely on the flat top of the shin bone. It also produces synovial fluid to feed and lubricate the cartilage. Your meniscus can tear if you’re heading one way and then change direction quickly (think fast rally in tennis) or through force (think linebacker hit). Your knee is still going zig while your body has started to zag. It can also tear from overuse; for instance, from doing too many squats or other knee exercises. When the meniscus tears, it changes from shock absorber to inflamed sore area.
