What is joint replacement?

Joint replacement is a cure for arthritis. The surgery replaces damaged cartilage surfaces and underlying bone with artificial materials such as metal alloys, ceramics and hard plastics called polyethylene. Implanting these artificial materials improves the gliding or moving ability of your joint. You will no longer have bone-on-bone discomfort when you move because the artificial surfaces do not have nerve endings that signal pain.
