How is hypocalcemia diagnosed?

Hypocalcemia is diagnosed by blood test. Often, doctors diagnose the condition before it becomes severe or begins to cause symptoms. If hypocalcemia is discovered, other blood tests may be used to determine how well your kidneys are functioning, and to check your levels of magnesium, parathyroid hormone, phosphate, and vitamin D. Your doctor may perform additional blood tests to help diagnose the cause of your hypocalcemia.
