Because hypocalcemia has so many causes, it can be difficult to prevent. Make sure you get enough calcium in your diet. If you have hypoparathyroidism, pancreatitis, kidney problems, malabsorptive problems - or problems absorbing all the nutrients from your food - or if you are taking certain prescription drugs, talk to your doctor about the risk of hypocalcemia.
