When is drug therapy recommended for bladder cancer?

Chemotherapy for bladder cancer is recommended in many circumstances. It can be given prior to surgery (neo-adjuvant), which is removal of the bladder. It can be given after surgery (adjuvant). It can also be given in conjunction with radiation, which can be an alternative to surgery but is best used in early stage bladder cancers. Chemotherapy can also be recommended for patients when the cancer has spread to other organs.
