Belly fat is far more dangerous than the fat found elsewhere in the body. The fat that is stored in your belly or omentum causes inflammation in your liver, arteries and immune system. This will increase your risk for heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases and cancers.

Some scientists put us in various categories, depending on the way we are built. For example, there are those men and women we call “apples,” who accumulate fat at the waistline (mostly men); pears (mostly women) are those that carry more weight below the waist and around the thighs and upper legs. If you are an apple body type, you have a higher risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, and even some cancers.

Studies show that “where” you carry your body fat is an important indicator of certain diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. People who have fat abdomens (the apple shape) have greater risks for health problems than people who carry their fat in their thighs and hips (the pear shape).
