What is tracheitis?

Tracheitis, also known as bacterial tracheitis or acute bacterial tracheitis, is an infection of the trachea (windpipe). Tracheitis is rare. It affects children, causing swelling of the windpipe and possible blocking of the airway. Though tracheitis is a serious condition, most children with this infection make a complete recovery after treatment.
